Abstract
ABSTRACT
The article explains why pessimism about the chances of success of military intervention had become an immovable feature of the British official mind by 1965. Several factors including the attitudes and capabilities of the British and Rhodesian military and the possibility of South African intervention are examined. The British military planning staff conducted investigations into the feasibility of a military operation to overcome settler resistance in Central Africa.
